Mozart 2 Pro
Mac OS Education
Mozart is a fantastic game that can help anybody improve their music reading skills. When a new session begins notes start streaming from the right side of the screen. These notes have to be named in the order of their appearance with the current input instrument (i.e. piano). If a note gets too close to the clef on the left side of the screen it disappears in a cloud of vapor and you lose a life. The further the game progresses the more notes appear and their range will widen to potentially include many ledger lines above and below the staff. Once you deplete all your lives the game is over.
Mozart 2 Pro is a complete rewrite of the venerable Mozart game and offers tons of new features and improvements. The biggest change is in the game logic itself with the addition of half and quarter notes which are introduced in realistic time-based subdivisions. And ranges are now announced in music notation at the beginning of each new round and reflected in the instrument's scale highlights. Using the piano instrument for example you will see level 1 announced as ranging from middle C to G4 in music notation with 5 gum drops on the keyboard indicating where those notes are.
Other new features are also great learning aids. Like the instrument note preview which is available between games. Clicking a key or fret on any of the instruments now shows that note in music notation. Great for looking up notes one might have trouble with. Another new feature is called missed note highlighting and animates the instrument gum drops of notes one didn't get to in time. And finally there is Do Over. Brand-new in Mozart 2 Pro it quickly became a favorite with our testers. As the name implies one gets to replay the entire game exactly like the first time around with bonuses, bombs and everything.
We also added instruments for the entire classical string family as well as the banjo. There are new inline fret indicators, octave indicators and smoother animations. Instrument scale indicators are now configurable and for those who want to have some fun we added 235 assignable sounds. Now you can play steel drums with the guitar instrument. Speaking of fun, we also added 2 new game characters. Double-time and another favorite amongst our testers - Detonators.
The double-time game character does exactly what its name implies. Get that note wrong and things speed up. Fortunately the game resumes its regular speed after the level completes, so if you can stay alive, you are good to go. As for Detonators, they will explode any remaining notes on the screen. Standard practice is to wait until the very last moment to identify them and then revel in the forthcoming explosions and extra points.
Mozart 2 Pro has a lot to offer and is a lot of fun. And it is not only for beginners or music students. All string instruments support scordatura and the piano offers 5 clef selections including grand staff. If you want you can practice the alto clef on the violin or the bass clef on the guitar. The Mozart documentation website is also new and updated continuously. It includes video as well as many screenshots.
