English interiors have a distinctive character and charm. But how does one find a singular term to encapsulate a style which varies in scale and aspiration from characterful cottage to more classically grand estate. The very essence of the English approach to decoration is in its eclectism, its defiant avoidance of trends, and its use of intensely personal objects to create a timeless look that feels organic to the house in which it sits.

However, despite being a style that avoids a deliberately ‘designed’ look; English style is infused with instantly recognizable, almost iconic features that regularly appear within each given room type. And so whilst it is virtually impossible (and, it must be said, undesirable) to give a definitive ‘colour by numbers’ approach to achieving an English look, this App is intended to offer an insightful overview of key ingredients and their historical precedents.
