Pay With
Designed by Speech and Language Therapist Nicola Hart in conjunction with HughesApps, “Pay With” is a useful visual aid to assist with money handling.
Nicola is heavily involved with Down Syndrome Ireland and has previously spent many years living and working with adults with intellectual disabilities. Over time she has repeatedly observed the insecurity people can experience when handling money, leading to embarrassment and frustration in retail situations, with some people needing a high amount of support and reassurance when handling money to pay for everyday items.
Pay With is a visual support to help people to select the correct note or combination of notes when shopping.
The basic skills the user will need in order to operate this app are:
1) The ability to match numbers.
2) The ability to match a picture of a note with an actual note.
This app could also be used to teach these skills.
Pay With enables a user to easily input a value, click “Pay With” and immediately be shown which notes* will cover the cost. Obviously we cannot assume all users will be carrying all possible permutations of notes so three alternatives will be provided before the user is prompted (in both written and audio forms) to ask for assistance.
Pay With also offers the opportunity to add multiple items and save favourites with a photo for easy future reference.
Currencies currently supported: Great Britain Pound, Euro, United States Dollar, New Zealand Dollar, Canadian Dollar (images used with the permission of the Bank of Canada), Australian Dollar.
*- up to a 50 dollar/euro/pound limit
