The Collins COBUILD Intermediate Learner’s Dictionary is based on a huge database of text, both written and spoken, called the Collins Corpus. The Collins Corpus contains over 4.5 billion words, which means that you can trust Collins COBUILD to help you speak and write accurate and up-to-date English.

The entries contain a detailed account of the main uses and meanings of each word. Each of the forms is listed at the start of the entry, along with information about alternative spellings, if any exist. Explanations are written in full sentences, and show typical grammatical patterns. The explanations also give a clear description of meaning of the word. And of course, the thousands of examples are taken directly from the Collins Corpus, showing typical patterns of use, collocations and grammatical structure.
