by Marianne Schultz

Apple has released iOS 5.1.1 today to fix several bugs involving HDR photos, Airplay video playback, Safari bookmark and Reading List synchronization, and the iPad’s ability to switch between 2G and 3G networks.

  • Improves reliability of using HDR option for photos taken using the Lock Screen shortcut
  • Addresses bugs that could prevent the new iPad from switching between 2G and 3G networks
  • Fixes bugs that affected AirPlay video playback in some circumstances
  • Improved reliability for syncing Safari bookmarks and Reading List
  • Fixes an issue where ‘Unable to purchase’ alert could be displayed after successful purchase

iOS 5.1.1 is free to download and is compatible with the iPhone 3GS and up, the 3rd- and 4th-generation iPod touch and all iPad models.

Apple previewed iOS 5 at last year’s Worldwide Developer Conference in June and released iOS 5 in October. Apple is expected to preview the next major iteration of iOS at the WWDC keynote event next month on June 11.

Doesn’t appear for me for updating directly on the iPad.
Will this update improve Suraj’s obvious keyboard problems?

Gee, what a great list of features I don’t want!

Hey Apple, I’d really like to see the following in an iOS patch:
    – better methods for viewing & rating & blocking apps in AppStore
    – a way to get at the file structure in the phone w/o jailbreaking, ie to dump tracking info or access info on my location or contacts, to pull data files w/o using iTunes, etc
    – a way to access my phone data w/o installing iTunes on PC (again, w/o jailbreaking) b/c iTunes slows my PC down
    – process killing on iPhone
    – change fonts, change rows/columns on ‘desktop’ launcher
    – look at the pic of the caller / contact
    – look at phone menu while on the phone
    – take notes while on phone
    – have my calendar be a useful way to track notes, todo’s, etc
    – more involved error reports (if you want them), ie why won’t my email move an email to a folder?
    – make flagging emails & marking read/unread fast again
    – speed controls for playback in iTunes (like DownCast app)
    – search for text in Safari
    – option to label pics & change photo metadata in camera/photo app
    and more.
Apple, hire me and I can be your professional bug hunter!
    :)

search for text in Safari is quite easy, you just type the search entry into the ‘Google search bar’, scroll down and there is the “On This Page ([certain amount] matches)

You can look at the phone menu and take notes whilst on a call… just hit the home button and select whatever app you want to use. To return to the call, tap the green bar at the top of the home screen.

What I’d like is a permanant fix for my firmware, which seems to become corrupted by someone sending me MMS messages from a ‘Droid phone.

Each time I get sent one.. a) it doesnt get delivered. But worst of all b) my phone enters a cycle of finding a 3g signal then losing it, then “searching”, then finding a 3g signal, then losing it, then “searching”, then…. etc. The only thing that fixes it is to revert to a back up, prior to the first time the problem occured. Then it works fine until someone else sends me an MMS from their Android. !! NOW THAT’S A BUG I WANT FIXING!!!
