Twitter Adding Photo Integration to Official iOS App

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

Twitter announced today that users will soon be able to attach pictures directly to tweets and that this capability will be coming soon to its official mobile apps and Twitter.com. Twitter is partnering with Photobucket, an image hosting company that was founded in 2003, to host users’ photos.

Millions of people share photos on Twitter every day. We’re going to make that easier than ever. Over the next several weeks, we’ll be releasing a feature to upload a photo and attach it to your Tweet right from Twitter.com. And of course, you’ll soon be able to easily do this from all of our official mobile apps. A special thanks to our partner Photobucket for hosting these photos behind the scenes.

Currently, Twitter users must rely on a 3rd-party image hosting service, like Posterous, TwitPic, yfrog and others, to save tweeted pictures and video.

Twitter also announced a revamped search feature for the micro-blogging service that is promised to provide more relevant search results plus related photos and videos.

Twitter’s announcement today comes on the heels of a report by Techcrunch yesterday indicating that Apple’s iOS 5 will include native Twitter integration that would allow iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad users to post pictures straight to Twitter. Apple announced yesterday that Steve Jobs and other company executives will preview iOS 5 at next week’s WWDC keynote though the company has not yet released specific details about new features in this next major firmware version.

‘Silent Film Director’ Free for Today

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

Developer MacPhun has made its Silent Film Director app free for June 1 in celebration of Marilyn Monroe’s birthday. Though the blonde starlet was never in any silent films to my knowledge, I’m never one to quibble about details when an app goes free.

Silent Film Director lets you create new or edit previously recorded videos to transform them into silent films complete with musical soundtracks. There are a variety of film styles to choose from, including 1920′s era style, black and white, and more. Other effects like adding title cards and the ability to insert still images are available via in-app purchase – a one-time $.99 upgrade charge adds these and several additional features.

MacPhun has a YouTube channel with hundreds of videos made by users to showcase what you can create with Silent Film Director. You can upload your own Silent Film Director creations to this channel right within the app.

Silent Film Director is regularly priced at $1.99 so if it’s been on your Wish List, go ahead and snap it up while it’s free for today.
