Blog RSSAppShopper Importer Tools for Mac and Windows Available
Yesterday we noted some recent changes to the AppShopper site and we wanted to highlight a free tool to help you keep track of your current apps. Importer applications for both Mac and Windows users are available – the Importer will pull the complete list of apps you already own from iTunes on your computer into your AppShopper profile.
You can download the Importer tool from the following links:
- AppShopper Importer 1.0.3 (Mac)
- AppShopper Importer 1.0.3 (Windows)
The Importer will pull only the names of apps from your iTunes library and nothing else. The application will ask you to log in to your AppShopper account to get started. If you don’t already have an account, you can create one here (accounts are free).
As we also mentioned yesterday, you can rate the apps you own in the My Apps tab by clicking on the star that best represents your opinion of the app as shown in the screenshot below:
We’ll be working to aggregate this rating data and make it accessible to all AppShopper users.

Mac version doesn’t work – I have 1904 Apps in iTunes, yet the Importer says that it has uploaded 9 iPhone Apps
(I don’t know whether ‘iPhone’ means iPhone/iPod Touch, or whether it’s an oversight and should read ‘iOS’…)

I can not imoprting the link for Appshoper for windows.
At the end of importing, below message is appeared.
‘Invalid username or password’
‘Please check your username and password and try again.’
I checked several times, I writted correctly.
How can I solve this problem?

I have the same problem as Imjoseph with the Windows version. 100% sure that the correct user/pwd is entered. Also tried to log out/in of appshopper.com and that works fine (i.e. correct user/pwd).

I noticed that nearly all of the comments are mentioning how people are not getting the importer to work properly. So, I just wanted to hop on and say the opposite. The importer worked flawlessly for me, on Win7 x64. Took about three minutes, for about 1500 apps. Really, really, really useful tool. Thanks a ton for making it available to us.

I tried to login at least 15 times. Each time it says invalid username and/or password. I even changed my password after 10 tries on the appshopper.com website. It still has not worked.

I am also unable to use the importer utility due to “wrong” user/pass, but I know positive I’ve inputted the proper info.

Username and password errors for me, too. Wrote the devs awhile ago and still no response. My password contains characters, I’m assuming thats the issue, but can’t be sure. The site is great, the app is great, I’d really like to try this importer and see if it improves the experience…

Mac version problem.
I have 8xx apps in my iTunes library and 2xx apps in my iPhone.
But the importer always tell me that “Your iPhone apps have been sent to AppShopper. 1 apps imported (0 new).”

Your importer can’t handle a large amount of apps. You need to break the URIs into whatever MAX size Java handles…

GREATEST app(lication) ever for my ipad.
I admit I had problems importing all apps…
But I splitted the file Mobile Apllication in two files a 45GB.
Renaming in 1 and 2.
This application would be perfect if I can export them in an exel file.

works well for me! I’ve imported more than 2000 apps with no errors. It reads the metadata file, so you don’t need to change file names to find a match. And it is smart enough to import the new apps only. Perfect! Way to go, appshopper!

I get the same error as Crypton due to a large amount of apps.

No errors – but its only finding 19 of the 435 apps that are showing in iTunes (mac version). Nice idea – something I’ve wanted for a long time – but not quite there yet.

For all who are having .net problems with large app libraries, I have found a fix. Copy one or two apps to your local drive and run the search there to start the database, then after it completes, then run the search on your main application folder. Worked for me.

I just installed this program and I found it worked well…TOO WELL. The idiot program added apps I’ve long since deleted not just from iTunes, but from my PC! Now I’ve got to go through the list on the site and remove them AGAIN!

Hi,
I’ve just run this on my Mac and it started uploading app titles without prompting for a library location. I had moved all of my apps to an external drive, leaving the old iTunes location as a read only copy, so the program didn’t pick up all of my apps.
Is there any chance you could update the program to allow specifying the location of either the mobile apps folder or the library file for scanning please?

I am having issues importing my apps to appshopper, like a user stated before this application can’t handle my massive itune library I have more than 4000 apps and probably that’s the problem. Some one needs to fix that.

I fixed the issue, the problem is that the apshopper application for windows can’t handle my 4 000 apps in the library, so I break it down to 1 000 and it worked.

For those of you who only have a small subset of your library uploaded, I found the solution. At some point, iTunes moved the location of the Mobile Applications directory from ~/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications/ to ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Mobile Applications/. However, at least for me, some old application files got left behind (the applications still appear in the new folder location). The importer tool is looking in the old location. To fix this, I removed the old location and reran the importer. It will then ask you for the directory where applications are stored, navigate to the new location.

thank you gshapiro. there was an empty directory at C:\Users\XXXX\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\ called Mobile Applications. My apps are stored in C:\Users\XXXX\Music\iTunes\Mobile Applications
I deleted the empty directory and it worked perfectly as you said. Hopefully the appshopper folks will update this tiny fix to the program so others can use it without problems or fixes.

i have tried loading the importer app several times now. the link in appshopper does not seem to work either. Went to website and downloaded something there that had a zip folde ans PDFs. When I click on zip folder the app does not run. Tad frustrating especially when the download required is from an app that focuses on listing competent apps. Very disappointing. I would rate it ** for having option to add apps to wish list.prices advertised seem off too. I have gone to by 3 different apps today listed in app store and they were a different price to list. What a shame.

The AppShopper Importer was working perfectly – until the last 2 week. Now all I get is this: Connection error: “The request timed out.” – Message. Every time!
Reinstall didn´t help.

Importer via Win7 only imported about 25% of my total 4000 apps (checking each one manually would take days to complete! Having read previous related enteries, I’m still confused on how to correct this issue…my computer tech knowledge is less than subpar.
All apps show up just fine in itunes and the auto-generated “Mobile Application” folder.
Hoping someone might have a simplified solution???

As I stated before, if the URL that your program sends is too long, your server rejects it. Instead of sending so much information, break it up into smaller packets. I gave up on your importer long ago after reporting this and it not getting fixed. You asked for details and I sent them … then nothing.

App shopper importer does not work on my iPad gen 3. I did get some really good scrolling practice in though while trying to get to the bottom of this page for entering this complaint.
I won’t hold my breath on this, as I can see its been going on a long time.

Solution for Windows 8!
Extract AppShopperImporterWin_103.exe with 7Zip or something similar program and you will get a Setup.msi file from it. That will install nicely and upload your apps.

NLZ’s method worked. If you have UniExtract right click the file and click UniExtract to subdir. It will come up asking what method, tell it that it is not an InstallShield Installer and it will extract. Now run the Setup.msi like NLZ said and it will install.
