Today is Cyber Monday, the day informally reserved for online store sales to follow Black Friday, which is when brick and mortar stores typically slash prices for the holiday shopping season. Many app developers have joined in celebrating this new tradition by temporarily reducing app prices, sometimes by substantial amounts. We’ve found a few app sales that stood out in case you’re looking to stock up for yourself or shop for digital gifts for friends and family.
Note that many of these sales are for a limited time only, with some ending on November 30 (tonight!), so make your purchases sooner rather than later to take advantage of these lower prices.
Last week, we covered some GPS app sales for Thanksgiving week, and TomTom has since let us know about one more price reduction for Cyber Monday: TomTom U.S.A. has been reduced to $34.99 down from $39.99.
If you’re an astronomy buff or just a casual star gazer, you’ll be happy to know that the excellent Star Walk by Vito Technologies is on sale. Both the iPhone and iPad versions of the app are currently $.99, down from $4.99 for the iPad version and $2.99 for the iPhone version.
For those who prefer taking notes by hand over typing, two popular note-taking apps for the iPad are currently on sale. Both Penultimate by Cocoa Box Design and Notes Plus by Viet Tran are down to $.99 from $4.99. We’ve used both apps and while both are quite capable, the edge goes to Notes Plus with its close-up writing tool plus concurrent audio recording though Penultimate arguably has a prettier interface overall.
Music lovers will be happy to see that Nota, the musical notation reference and practice app featured in one of Apple’s iPad commercials, is currently on sale. Both the iPhone and iPad versions are down to just $.99, from $4.99 and $7.99 respectively.
If you’re doing a lot of your holiday shopping online this year and need to keep track of your packages, Delivery Status Touch by Junecloud is now on sale for $2.99, down from $4.99. Delivery Status Touch is one of our perennial favorites, packing in both a high level of functionality and a slick interface. It’s also a great value as a universal app if you own both an iPad and iPhone or iPod touch.
If sketching and painting on the go are your thing, check out SketchBook Mobile and SketchBook Pro by Autodesk, the maker of AutoCAD. Both versions are temporarily $.99, down from $7.99 for the iPad version and from $2.99 for the iPhone version.
