VLC Media Player, which first arrived for the iPad only in the App Store just last month, has been updated to universal format adding iPhone compatibility. Version 1.1.0 hit the App Store this morning with a few other new features in tow as well:
- Runs on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and the recent iPod touches
- You can now delete files from the application, without having to go through iTunes
- Many more extensions are being recognized.
- Much faster decoding thanks to assembly optimizations
Developer Applidium created the app with the support of VideoLan, the non-profit organization that creates free and open source media software. The VLC media player software plays most video formats and media codecs and is available for free for multiple platforms, and the source code is also freely available on the organization’s site.
