_______________

This first issue of EDITION29 HOUSED is a tribute to Modern American Homes and a showcase of the architect’s handiwork as seen through an extensive set of visual panoramas that can be experienced while listening to the commentary by each of the architects.

Starting with the Desert House in Santa Fe, New Mexico, by architects Ohlhausen DuBois designed specifically to showcase works of modern art by Ellsworth Kelley, Kiki Smith, and culminating with an embedded room in the center of the house as a piece of sculpture, the SKYSCAPE by artist James Turrell.

The Claremont House designed by the architect for his family, is set in between a row of traditional Chicago homes and stands out for its simple modern boxed elegance. This three story brick structure is punctuated with concrete, steel and zinc overtones with large sheets of glass that bookend the front and back of the home thus providing to people walking by a transparent box to peer into and see through the full length of the first floor.

This issue rounds out with the modern rural residence the Becherer House in Earlysville, Virginia, the long rectangular Northbeach residence on Orcas Island in Washington state that melds into the woods around it and the dual freestanding buildings that make up the Split house in Sagaponack, New York by architect John Keenen.
