ECG Monitoring

       iOS iPad

ECG monitoring is one of the most valuable diagnostic tools. When cardiac arrhythmia occurs, the trace recorded by a single-lead cardiac monitor is not always enough for an accurate interpretation of the rhythm, so a 12-lead ECG should be recorded if possible. However in emergency situations the trace recorded by a single-lead cardiac monitor is enough to guide reanimation treatment in the case of cardiac arrest with VF/TV, asystole or PEA, and to immediately recognize those electrocardiac alterations that may accompany or cause haemodynamic problems, and become life-threatening.
The “ECG monitoring” application is just one part extracted and elaborated from the multi-medial DVD-ROM “Emergency Procedures and Techniques”, which accompanies the volume “M. Chiaranda: Illustrated Guide to Emergencies (3rd ed.), Piccin, Padova, 2008”.
The aim of this application is to help to correctly interpret the most-commonly observed traces on the monitor, and to identify electro-cardiographic features by applying some simple rules, describing their physiopathology and clinical impact, and indicating the procedures necessary for appropriate treatment. It furthermore enables users to test their level of knowledge by means of over 5,000 multiple-choice questions presented in random order.
