Columns is a numerical puzzle game. Given a square grid of numbers, the player needs to make each column and row match the specified target value. Red tiles represent subtraction, while green tiles represent addition.

Columns allows the player to select the grid size and the difficulty of the puzzles. Puzzles of lower difficulty tend to use lower numbers more frequently, while puzzles of higher difficulty use all numbers equally.

Since the game uses the colors red and green prominently, it includes a "colorblind mode" option, which prefixes each grid item with "+" or "-". This option can be turned on in the Window menu.

The game also includes a short tutorial to introduce new players to the game.
