Create habits of happiness for you and your children.
Rocks In the Basket, the app, engages adults, parents, and children alike. Parents use Rocks In the Basket to improve the quality time they have with their children. It’s a fun and easy activity that sets a positive and cooperative tone, and provides teaching moments so kids can appreciate the values behind the positive behaviors their parents encourage.
Others use Rocks In the Basket for themselves, to bring their attention back to the present moment, appreciate joy throughout the day, and build habits of mind that make life easier, happier, and more fulfilling.
[Note: This LITE version of the app has the same functionality as the full app, with a reduced number of journal entries supported; 15 journal entries are supported in LITE. If you migrate your journal entries using the dropbox, social media, or email options on a regular basis, you may never need to purchase the full version of the app.]
Rocks In the Basket is a practice that was developed in the classroom by veteran educator Barbara Rabin and has spread to many schools and households because it engages adults and children together in a fun and natural way. In the classrom it is the simple practice of noticing positive moments and letting children literally put a rock in a basket and make an entry in a classroom journal. When the class has filled the basket, they have a celebration and go back through the memories recorded in the journal. Like the moments in the journal, the celebrations are often simple—having playtime of their choosing, going to the park, watching a video and having popcorn.
This simple practice sets a positive and cooperative tone that complements other activities and practices already present throughout the day.
Rocks In the Basket, the app, takes this proven practice and makes it easier—and more fun—by adding a photo to your journal entry, customizable journal text, and sharing via social media. And, your basket goes with you wherever you take your phone or tablet.
In a short time children themselves will point out happy moments and ask to put a rock in the basket. Your kids will ask how many rocks there are before the next celebration, and will become Happiness Detectives working together to create and notice life’s wonderful moments!
Today we are all busier than ever; with just a few taps in this app you can capture moments both big and small to appreciate and remember. It’s as easy as touching a rock, choosing a journal entry, and taking a photo with your phone.
