The Divine Office app provides the official set of daily prayers prescribed by the Church to be recited at the canonical hours — accessible to you anytime, wherever you are. Designed to be very easy to use, this audio version of the Liturgy of the Hours will make praying the hours more convenient, enjoyable, and simple enough for anyone to use without any technical know-how and without a computer.

This application automatically downloads the current day’s audio Liturgy, as well as upcoming days, without connecting to a computer. This app uses your wireless connection—without iTunes synchronization—so that you never need to connect to a computer to install updates. PLEASE NOTE: All audio files are also available for free on our website at www.DivineOffice.org or our podcast called Divine Office.

The term “Divine Office” relates to activities and expectations of clergy, religious orders, and laity to strengthen and deepen their relationship with God—to the benefit of God daily. The more traditional names for Divine Office are Liturgy of the Hours or Breviary.

When St. Paul advises us in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 to “pray without ceasing,” he intends more than simply bowing our heads and speaking to God on a regular basis; he means for us to adopt an ongoing attitude of prayer that is a way of life and a constant intercession for the salvation of all mankind.

As the mystical body of Christ prays in unison, it fulfills what Paul advises as Christian conduct, that believers at once pray for the good of themselves, their neighbors, and the world. In this way, prayers become more than just prayers, they are liturgy. And as such, they are at their best when done within a community. Coupled with the prayers of others throughout the world, our prayers bring us closer to filling this remarkable calling, our obligations to God — our Divine Office.

This Divine Office application uses the current four-volume Liturgy of the Hours with a bias towards the USA calendar. This version is the official prayer book of the Catholic Church, but it is well suited for all orthodox Christian faith traditions so please join us in prayer.

What's new

Added view of the Earth depicting other people who are using their iPhone or iPod Touch at this moment in time. These are a few of the people who are praying with you. There are also many (about 1000) that use only the free podcast from iTunes and those that turned off the location feature. They are praying with you, but we don't display when or where. Note that we have intentionally made the location feature very low in accuracy (accurate within 50 miles) and it only works in North America and a few countries around the world. Bottom line, there are many people praying with you, but this depiction might only show 1 in 100 of who you are actually praying with while using this app.
