# Fun Facts
On November 17, 1924, an editorial in The New York Times calls crossword puzzles "a primitive sort of mental exercise" and a "sinful waste" of time. Another editorial four days later predicts their swift disappearance. After Pearl Harbor, the Times becomes the last major New York daily to add the puzzle on February 15, 1942. As the first editor of the Crossword noted, "I don't think I have to sell you on the increased demand for this kind of pastime in an increasingly worried world. You can't think of your troubles while solving a crossword. . . ."
