This is a simple implementation of the classic game of chess. This is a ONE PLAYER version only. You are playing against your mobile device!
The computer recursively explores the tree of possible moves, keeping score along the way. It tries to take as many pieces as possible and get into the center early. That's about all. Its endgame strategy is to win before the endgame. The only possible endgames are stalemate and checkmate.
This chess board is designed for beginning chess players, who simply want to improve their basic play, or learn the basics. Advanced players will find the computer very easy to beat!
Tips: If you find that you cannot make a particular move (i.e, the end-tap not does register with the computer), then this means that you've attempted an illegal move, OR it means that you're in a state of check, and you must take your King to safety before any other move. In this initial 1.0 version, there is no automatic "reset game" option, so you just have to close and reboot the app to start a new game.
Also, this chess game has some features that make it well-suited to those learning to play. For example, you can undo any previous move, giving you the power to explore multiple possible outcomes. You may see a history of the moves made, and swap sides with the computer so that you can see what the computer "would have done" in your situation. Please note that when you swap sides, the computer immediately executes a move.
