《初刻拍案惊奇》是明朝末年凌蒙初编著的拟话本小说集。成书于明朝天启七年(1627)，第二年由尚友堂书坊刊行问世。其后凌蒙初又编著《二刻拍案惊奇》，于明朝崇祯五年(1632)刊行。二书合称“二拍”。《初刻拍案惊奇》本为四十卷四十篇，原本已失，今所见最早且最为完整的本子是藏于日本内阁文库的尚友堂刻本，全书存三十九卷(缺二十三卷)，即实有小说39篇。

《初刻拍案惊奇》的编著者凌蒙初(1580—1644)，字玄房，号初成，亦名凌波，又字波厈，别号即空观主人，湖州乌程(今浙江吴兴)人。祖先四代为官，其父叔辈始事编刻，成为当时颇有盛名的书刻家。凌蒙初天资聪颖，但命运蹇促。幼年时家道衰落，成年又屡困场屋。虽有才学，却与功名无缘，曾作《绝交举子书》以泄愤。晚年曾为优贡接上海县丞，继擢升为徐州通判，颇有政绩，但身处末世，终无展示才干之机。他效忠于明王朝，在镇压李自成起义的过程中忧愤呕血而死。他一生著述宏富，学术著作外，于诗文、散曲、戏曲、小说等均有建树，而以“二拍”影响最大。

“二拍”是模拟话本小说而创作的小说集。其题材大多取自前人说部书如《太平广记》、《夷坚志》、《剪灯新话》、《剪灯余话》等。但都经过凌蒙初的再加工和再创作，融入了凌氏本人的思想个性，体现了凌氏本人的艺术构思和艺术风格。所以“二拍”成为中国文学史上第一部文人独立创作的拟话本小说集而有较大的影响，在中国古代小说史上占有重要的地位。

凌蒙初编著“二拍”的直接原因主要有两个，其一是科场失意，遂“取古今所闻一二奇局可纪者”，“演而成说，聊抒胸中垒块”；其二是受了冯梦龙编纂“三言”的影响。凌氏出身于书商之家，见冯梦龙“三言”“颇存雅道”，“一破今时陋习”，且又颇为畅销，遂“取古今来杂碎事可新听睹、佐谈谐者，演而畅之”。凌蒙初虽仿效冯梦龙编著“二拍”，但他的思想较之冯梦龙却相对复杂保守，故“二拍”的思想内容较之“三言”也多落后保守的倾向，表现出矛盾复杂的状况。在艺术上，凌氏却并不步趋冯氏，而能“化神奇于臭腐”，形成“拍案惊奇”的艺术效果。

《初刻拍案惊奇》内容很复杂，思想倾向也不尽相同。故事题材虽多出自前代著述，但经过凌氏的再创作，却表现着晚明的社会现实和时代气息，浸含着凌氏本人的思想观念和愤世俗的不平之气。

Assets is a Financial Information Management application that keeps track of your assets. The app works on the basis of annual depreciation of non-financial assets, where you enter an initial purchase price, a date, set the annual depreciation percentage rate (ADPR), and a minimum value percentage rate. The program will then calculate the current value of the asset using this information. All assets are revalued daily on this basis.

For assets that do not depreciate, for example property, financial holdings, jewelry, or art/precious collections, where the current value floats up or down with market conditions, you can enter the current market value manually. This is available when you set the annual depreciation rate to zero.

The application displays an overview screen, where the sum of all assets is broken down by category, and the totals at the bottom. There are no built in categories, you choose the categories when you add new assets (either an existing category previously entered, or enter a new category) , which you can then use to filter on the details list screen. The top value displayed is the current market value, and the bottom value is the original purchase price.

The full list screen displays the details for all assets, or filtered assets by category. The values here give the details for individual asset items. The color of the value amount indicates three states of the asset:-

Black – Asset being depreciated using the ADPR% Rate set.
Red – Asset depreciated past the minimum value percentage rate set and is set to the minimum value.
Purple – Asset not being depreciated, but market value manually set.

The preferences screen allows you to choose the sort modes for the overview and list screens (sort on current value/purchase price/A..Z), set e-mail options (send HTML mail body, send tab delimited text file, send both), and to set a password if you don’t want prying eyes to check out your assets.

For each asset you can set/take a picture and enter unlimited notes (physical device memory allowing). The picture toggles between stamp size and enlarged by tapping on it in the details view.

The user interface is designed to be a little humorous since it can be quite depressing to watch your valuable purchases slowly decrease in value.

Usage Notes: The application is designed for speedy entry of data. So on the Add/Edit screen, all the text fields, number fields, category, and date entry fields will bring out the associated data entry tools on tap, which will be dismissed again on tap of the field, or on tap of any other field. This also applies to the “category button” on the details lists screen, where you press to bring out the category picker, select the category you desire, and press the “category button” again to select.

Lightpaths is a variant of the classic 70's game: Black Box. The goal of this game is to identify the location and orientation of mirrors in the cells of a square.

A cell may or may not contain a mirror. If it contains a mirror it is placed along one of its diagonals. The mirrors are double-sided -- has reflective surface on both sides.

Probes (light rays) are sent from the cells on the boundary. The rays: (1) pass through a cell if it does not have a mirror or (2) get reflected if a mirror is present. Two boundary cells that have the same number indicates that if a light ray is generated from one cell, it ends up at the other cell.

The objective of the game is to identify the location and orientation of the mirrors by observing the numbers on the boundary cells. You are required to find "any" arrangement with the exactly given number of mirrors that explains how boundary cells are paired. This game is quite challenging when you increase the number of mirrors.

This implementation features:
(1) 6x6 and 8x8 boards.
(2) 3 levels of difficulty: 2 - 6 mirrors; 7 - 12 mirrors; and 13 - 18 mirrors. In each level, the number of mirrors is chosen randomly.
(3) You can get hints on your current placement of mirrors by clicking the "Check" button. Correct locations (with orientation) are highlighted in green. This is simply a hint that you can fix those mirrors in those positions and still find a solution.
(4) When you check a solution, if a mirror is highlighted in green, it implies that you don't have to change that position to find a solution. If a mirror is not highlighted, it may need to be moved. This should be viewed as hints provided by the system.

This is a very simple, intuitive, and engaging game. Enjoy!

FlashCards for Kids is a simple, yet fun, e-learning application for anyone who wants to improve English, Russian, and German vocabulary.

Audio pronunciations are available for ALL three languages. To enable German or Russian audio pronunciations, open the "Settings" screen and set one of those languages as the Primary language.

Features include:

* Colorful, clear pictures have been created or obtained from royalty-free image libraries for this application. Looking at the great pictures is part of the fun for kids!

* English, German, and Russian words are shown simultaneously on the screen. If you already know one of these languages, this makes learning other languages much simpler.

* The big, central sound button allows you to repeat audio pronunciations. When this button is pressed, the system auto-pauses, allowing you to hear the pronunciation as many times as you wish.

* Pause/play button in the lower right corner of the screen allows you to stop the slide rotation so that you can focus on a word.

* Using your fingers, you can manually advance or rewind slides. Please note that the app must be in "pause" mode for this.

* Words are organized into Easy and Medium categories, for beginners and continuing learners. Easy words are mostly one-syllable and some very common two-syllable words.

* A settings screen, where you can set the default language, which is the language that you will hear when audio is enabled.

* Professional German pronunciation for all German words when German is set as the Primary language.

* Professional Russian pronunciation for all Russian words when Russian is set as the Primary language.

* Professional English pronunciation for all English words when English is set as the Primary language.

* Autoplay of sounds can be enabled or disabled. If enabled, every word will be pronounced by a pre-recorded voice for the language shown.

* Time between slides can be set lower or higher, in case you need more time to read the words, or if you just want to zip through them quickly.

* You may completely turn off all sounds, if desired. This is great if you want to review your flashcards in church.

* You may turn off other languages, if you just want to focus on one particular language.

FaceNames helps you learn the names and faces of the people in your address book.

If you're bad at remembering names and faces FaceNames can help!

FaceNames creates flash cards from the people in your address book. It uses people who:
* have a photo, and
* have a first and/or last name

There are two types of cards:
* The first shows a photo and six names - pick the name that matches the photo.
* The second shows a name and six photos - pick the photo that matches the name.
If you're right the photo and the name are outlined in green; if you're wrong they're outlined in red.

Features:
* Lower scored people are presented more often
* Saves your score for each person (for the current session only in the Lite version)
* If you add new people to your address book they are added to FaceNames
* If you remove people from you address book they are removed from FaceNames

Planned Features:
* Add a transparent green checkmark overlay on the card when you select right, and a transparent red X overlay on the card when you select wrong.

The paid version of FaceNames remembers your score between sessions.
