Frederick Carl Frieseke (April 7, 1874 to August 24, 1939) was a popular American Impressionist painter born in Owosso, Michigan. He studied at both the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Académie Julian in Paris. Like Monet, Frieseke and his family lived in Giverny, where he resides for fourteen years. Frieseke was a powerful influence on the Americans at the colony there, many of which shared his Midwestern background.
