The Lettermen go to the Seaside
Note: the current version is NOT yet compatible with the new iPad (3rd & 4th generation with retina display) but is compatible with the original iPad, iPad Mini and iPad2. A free upgrade to correct this will be available soon.
The Lettermen series was originally conceived by Roger Knights in 1985 as a simple way of putting fun into learning to read. It was never intended to be an educational system or a challenge to any established teaching methods, but both parents and teachers have found that the simple Lettermen stories are useful in showing children how letters form words and words have meanings. Over the years more three million Lettermen books have been sold around the world and the overwhelming tone of the responses we get from parents, teachers and children themselves is that reading can be fun - which is all we ever set out to achieve.
In this interactive app, each page focusses on a word and the story can be read out loud to you, or you can switch the audio off and read it yourself. Swipe left and right through the pages, swipe down to spell the word on that page, or swipe up to read again. The Lettermen appear in a random order and move around the screen, bouncing around until you put them in the right order to spell the word correctly.
