Talk Maths Year 4
Talk Maths is a fun way to get children talking about maths and working together to solve problems. This app provides four games to help children practise their mathematical vocabulary and speaking and listening skills.
Talk Maths is designed for pairs of children using iPads in school.
One child plays ‘blue’ and the other plays ‘green’, with each child having their own colour-coded area of the screen.
Talk Maths Year 4 is aimed at children aged 8-9 (England Year 4). This app provides four games, each differentiated at four levels.
1-dot is aimed at children who need Support
2-dot is for the Core of your class
3-dot is for children you want to Extend
4-dot provides an extra-hard Challenge!
Number Sums – make the sides of the triangle equal
1-dot: make a total of 9, 10, 11 or 12
2-dot: make totals of 15, 16, 17 or 18
3-dot: make totals of 27, 28, 29 or 30
4-dot: make totals of 36, 37, 38 or 39
Dominoes – make the touching ends of the dominoes obey a given rule
1-dot: the product of touching ends must be even, then a multiple of 3
2-dot: the product must be a multiple of 3, then a multiple of 4
3-dot: the product must be a multiple of 4, then a multiple of 6
4-dot: the product must be a multiple of 6, then one end must be divisible by another
Marble Run – adjust the function machine to make the target number
1-dot: input value 20, targets 1, 2, 40, 200
2-dot: input value 20, targets 10, 20, 100, 200
3-dot: input value 20, targets 100, 200, 1000, 2000
4-dot: input value 20, targets 1, 25, 50, 250
Mystery Number – use clues to eliminate digits and find the mystery number
1-dot: 4-digit mystery number; clue vocab: more than, less than, consecutive
2-dot: 4-digit mystery number; clue vocab: greater than, less than, consecutive
3-dot: 4-digit mystery number; clue vocab: greater than, less than, (greater than symbol), (less than symbol)
4-dot: 5-digit mystery number
