Hanzi Flashcards is designed to help you learn how to read and pronounce simplified Chinese characters. You'll learn not only the English translation of each character, but also the appropriate pinyin. Hearing the Chinese sounds in your head helps reinforce the visual character.

We've taken everything that makes paper flashcards so popular and effective as learning aids and brought it to the iPhone. Hanzi Flashcards will let you learn and practice simplified Chinese characters anywhere and anytime. It's a simple, portable, and convenient way of learning how to read and pronounce Chinese.

The current database contains useful words ranging from "Taxi" to "Toothbrush" and additional words will arrive in the future at no extra cost.

We've designed Hanzi Flashcards to be as streamlined and simple as possible. There's no fiddling with the keyboard or getting frustrated because you don't know if the answer is "Mom", "Mother", "Mommy", or "Mum". Press one button and you'll instantly know if you're right or wrong. Enjoy!

===== Important Note =====
Some users who upgrade from version 1.0 to 2.0 may find that Hanzi Flashcards will not open. Please delete Hanzi Flashcards from your iPhone or iPod and download it again from the App Store. It will not cost anything and should fix the problem. You could also resynch with iTunes after deleting the program. This issue does not effect new users who only downloaded version 2.0. We apologize for the inconvenience and a proper fix will be in the store as soon as possible.

What's new

+ Pinyin support added. Pronunciation with tone marks will now appear when "Answer" is pressed.

+ During Practice Mode, shaking the iPhone will now advance to the next character.
