Curiosity School - STEM series app by MicroEmpowering is a greener alternative for teaching Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) to curious students.
This iPad app has been designed to promote a “learn by doing” approach to education. This hands-on app will introduce curious middle school students to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics concepts by providing each user with a series of eight experiments, which are easily reproduced at home.
For enhanced learning, each experiment is focused on explaining how a certain STEM education concept works in practice, rather than a purely theoretical approach.
This app takes scientific theory to the next level by permitting students to build and test concepts in the real world, while fostering an interactive on-line learning experience.
To make these points clear let’s take the key features of the water wheel experiment as an example, where we:
-Demonstrate to users what a water wheel actually is
-Provide an accurate simulation of how it works
-Clearly explain how a water wheel can be used in real life
-Show how a water wheel is built in the real world
-Walk through a step-by-step plan to build a small water wheel from scratch
-Offer comprehensive information to test this experiment in real life
-Don’t use conceptual experiments to prove our point!
-Showcase each STEM education concept involved in making and experiment work
-Lastly, we provide knowledge check questions at the end to verify that the key concepts were retained
This is an excellent supplement to students that have difficulties materializing abstract scientific concepts that are often taught only in theory. By materializing abstract concepts, we foster curiosity about each topic related to STEM education in a fun and interactive manner.
The objective is to provide the tools and knowledge to build and test several experiments related to STEM education, in the real world.
In parallel, we provide additional materials related to each hands-on experiment to fortify the user’s knowledge and vocabulary regarding each topic.
Our experiments revolve around using a simple framework and clear language to explain and test problems related to STEM education. Our goal is to develop additional apps to cover topics related to the field of STEM education, which include broader issues faced by students, parents, educational organizations, and policy makers.
