Siddhartha - Hermann Hesse

Hermann Hesse - Nobel Prize in Literature winner

Siddhartha - one of Hesse's most influential masterpieces, read yearly by millions

Siddhartha is an allegorical novel by Hermann Hesse, which deals with the spiritual journey of an Indian boy called Siddhartha during the time of the Buddha.

While clearly it does owe much to both Buddhism and Hinduism, the philosophy embodied in Siddhartha is both unique and quite complex, despite the lyrically beautiful simplicity of the plot.
