German author Hermann Hesse’s ninth novel, Siddhartha was published in 1922. It tells of the spiritual journey of an Indian boy named Siddhartha, during the time of Buddha. The story is set in ancient India, and follows two friends in search of enlightenment. Hesse shows life experience as the way to understand reality and attain enlightenment.
