Manifesto del Futurismo (Italian)

Published in several newspapers in 1909, the Futurist Manifesto is the most renowned work by ideologue, poet, and playwright Filippo Tommaso Marinetti (1876–1944), the founder of the Futurist movement. In the Manifesto, Marinetti outlines the priciples of Futurism and in particular its rejection of the culture of laissez-faire that dominated Italy in the early 1900s. According to Marinetti, Italian progress and modernization were inescapable and had to be embraced by poets. The new Futurist spirit celebrated speed, youth, war, and industralizaition and later contributed to the development of the Fascist ideology in Italy.
