Malombra is a novel written by Antonio Fergazzaro in 1881. The protagonist of the novel Donna Marina is the grand child of the Count Caesar of Ormengo. One day Marina gets a manuscript, which she believes to be written by her grandmother Cecilia Varrega. The message stated to take revenge against the descendants of her husband and her lover Renato. Marina started to believe that she is the reincarnation of Cecilia took vow to avenge against the Count Caesar of Ormengo and Corrado Silla, who is believed to be the reincarnation Renato.

The story moves in a morbid atmosphere of reincarnation, revenge, sensuality, and death. Both funny and generous characters are also introduced in the novel to ease the tensed situation. The novel provoked mixed reactions.
