Les Trois Mousquetaires (French)

Alexandre Dumas (pere) released this novel in 1844, and subsequently added two sequels to form a trilogy. It recounts the exploits of d’Artagnan, a young man who sets out to become a guard of the Musketeers. The title refers not to d’Artagnan, but to his three musketeer friends Athos, Porthos, and Aramis. The Three Musketeers has inspired adaptations in theatre, films, television, and even video games.
