Charles Baudelaire published this volume of French poetry, Les Fleurs du Mal, in 1857. This work was an important part of the symbolist and modernist movements. Eroticism and decadence are the themes of these poems, and led to the author’s prosecution for “an insult to public decency”. The first edition was arranged in five sections:
-- Spleen et Idéal
-- Fleurs du mal
-- Révolte
-- Le Vin
-- La Mort
