Die Leiden des Jungen Werther – Buch 2 (German)

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe first published this loosely autobiographical novel in 1774, with a revised edition in 1787. Werther was an important novel in German literature’s “Sturm und Drang” period, and later influenced the Romantic literary movement. This novel is mainly a collection of letters written by a young artist Werther to his friend Wilhelm. These letters account for Werther’s life in Wahlheim, a fictional village near Wetzlar. Die Leiden des Jungen Werther transformed Goethe into an international literary celebrity.
