《楚辞》是一部收录中国战国时期楚地诗歌的诗集,是仅次于《诗经》的中国历史上第二部诗歌作品集,与《诗经》一样成为之后两千多年内中国古代诗歌发展的源头。
它是在战国时代由楚国诗人屈原和好友, 吸收南方民歌、上古神话、传说精华, 融合《诗经》南下的影响, 创造出的一种韵文。“楚辞”的名称, 最早见于西汉前期。《汉书·朱买臣传》中记载:“会邑子严助贵幸, 荐买臣。召见, 说春秋, 言楚词, 帝甚说(接:即悦)之。”又《汉书·王褒传》中有:“宣帝时修武帝故事……征能为楚辞九江被公, 召见诵读。
