MacPaw Releases CleanMyDrive Utility for Mac

by Marianne Schultz

MacPaw, the Ukraine-based software development company, released CleanMyDrive in the Mac App Store today. CleanMyDrive is a free utility that can automatically remove junk files from drives connected to your Mac, eject all drives with a single click, and more.

We extremely love how OS X is built. But still, there are things like mounted drives handling that can be further improved. As laptop users we face such issues while working with removable media as the necessity of regular trash bin cleanup, removing unwanted and annoying service files, inability to eject all drives in one click if needed. That had made us think how the ideal experience of using mounted drives should look like, and eventually we came up with the CleanMyDrive application”, said Oleksandr Kosovan, MacPaw’s CEO.

CleanMyDrive lives unobtrusively in your Mac’s menu bar. Clicking on its icon reveals a list of all drives currently connected to your Mac with a graphic display of how much space is used and free on each. Clicking on a drive’s icon will open a Finder window to show its contents, making it easy to find what you’re looking for if you don’t already have a Finder window open.

CleanMyDrive offers an Eject All function that can safely eject all connected drives from your computer all at once, a handy feature that can streamline your “undocking” process when you’re using a portable Mac in a desktop set-up to speed up leaving your desk. The app also recognizes when a specific drive has multiple partitions and lets you eject all partitions at the same time with a single click.

CleanMyDrive’s clean-up capabilities can automatically remove unnecessary files to free up space on your drives upon ejection. Unsurprisingly, CleanMyDrive also has hooks into MacPaw’s other offering, CleanMyMac ($14.95/29.95, available here), if you have it installed, offering to open the utility directly if you want to do a deeper review and clean-up of your internal hard drive.

CleanMyDrive is free and I can’t see any reason for you to not install it, particularly if you’re using a Mac laptop that you connect to external drives when you’re at home or the office. CleanMyDrive makes it much easier to keep an eye on your connected drives, remove unnecessary files, and eject them all at once to make escaping the office a little faster.

Rodney you’re an idiot! Does it make it true because I said it? Probably not but neither does your useless rationality in your comment.
