Black Friday, one of the biggest shopping days of the year, is upon us. Whether you prefer to do you shopping in person or online, there are apps that can show you sale items, help you find what you’re looking for and even reward you for spending your money. We’ve rounded up several that can help make your holiday shopping as painless and as productive as possible.
Many of the major store chains have apps that provide you with access to weekly ads, special sale items, and even frequent shopper accounts. These can be handy as you browse the aisles or you can even shop in the comfort of your own home through many of them. If any of these stores are on your hit list for your holiday shopping needs, be sure to download these free apps.

TapBuy Deals is a sales and deals app that lets you shop online at over a hundred retailers, including popular brands like the Gap, Best Buy, and others. Deals that are marked with a star can be purchased using TapBuy’s streamlined check-out process that lets you place orders within the app using your saved billing and shipping information. TapBuy also finds coupon codes and automatically applies them to your orders and features deals not available anywhere else.
For shoppers who like to frequent malls, Shopkick is an app you’ll definitely want to check out. The app awards you “kicks” for visiting participating stores, viewing special deals, and scanning barcodes of selected products using the iPhone’s camera. These kicks can be redeemed for gift certificates to places like Best Buy, Macy’s, and Target. At the time of this post, there are even items like a Sony flat-screen TV and a Princess Cruise trip on the rewards list. Of course, it can take a lot of kicks to get the larger items but if you’re out shopping often anyway, you can rack up a lot of kicks in short order.
If you’d rather shop for unique, hand-made products to give as gifts this holiday season, the online craft storefront Etsy now has an iPhone app. Etsy boasts over 11 million items from small businesses all over the world and you can shop them all right on your iPhone.
If you prefer shopping in brick-and-mortar stores but still like to check to see if you’re getting the best possible deal, I recommend one of my long-standing favorites, RedLaser, to check local and online prices easily. Using the iPhone’s camera, you can scan barcodes and quickly get prices from several online stores and even from other local physical stores based on your current location. RedLaser recently got a major update to add shopping list creation capabilities and more and it’s still free, to boot.
Once you’ve placed all of your online orders, you can track each and every shipment using one of my perennial favorites, Junecloud’s Delivery Status touch. All you need is the tracking number for each delivery item and Delivery Status touch will show you where each item is and when it will arrive. With a free Junecloud Sync account, you can sync your entries between multiple iOS devices and your Mac through a free Dashboard widget.
