The 9/11 Memorial: Past, Present, and Future –an app focusing on the World Trade Center before and after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks– has debuted in the App Store. The app features more than 400 photos and 40 videos, many never made public until now, as well as an interactive timeline of the Twin Towers before their destruction through to the present as construction on the memorial museum and new buildings progresses.
The app is available exclusively on the iPad. The New York Observer spoke to Steve Rosenbam, the writer and film producer who recorded, curated and edited the contents of the app, to learn more about this decision:
Mr. Rosenbaum said he decided to make the material iPad-only because it was simply the best device on which to display it. “I wanted it to be more of an immersive experience,” he said. “The nature of the photographs are so powerful, so to render them in anything but full color seemed wrong to me. And I didn’t want it to be viewed on a phone. I wanted it to be big and glossy.”
The app will be free through September 12. After this, it will cost $9.95.
iPad Insight saw the app before it was released and has posted a comprehensive review of it.
