July 4th Holiday App Sales Galore

by Marianne Schultz

We love holidays since developers like to celebrate them with app sales even if they’re not about gift-giving, and Independence Day weekend in the U.S. is no exception. There are a ton of apps on sale and I’ll try to cover the major sales here but there are so many you’ll want to check out our Price Drops listings for iOS and Mac apps respectively.

First off, the big game houses have knocked down prices on a plethora of titles for the weekend. Electronic Arts, Gameloft and others have joined in on the fun with some deep discounts. Most notably, Electronic Arts has dropped the prices of around 90 (!) of its iOS titles down to $.99, bringing some games that are regularly $9.99, like Battlefield: Bad Company 2 HD, Dead Space HD, Monopoly HD, Need for Speed Shift HD and others down significantly. Click here to see all of EA’s titles in the App store.

Gameloft has reduced 6 games down to $.99 for the holiday weekend, including the recently released N.O.V.A. 2:

If you’re looking for other deals outside of games, Pocket Informant HD, a highly-rated calendar and task app for the iPad, is down to $9.99 from $14.99. Also, MacPhun has made its neat Silent Film Director video editing app free and its FX Photo Studio picture editing apps $.99 in celebration of the July 4th holiday.

For the Mac, vimov has dropped its soothing Weather HD app down to $1.99 from $3.99 and Pixel Research Labs has reduced its ringtone-maker Ringer down to $.99 from $1.99. Also, Secret Exit has dropped the price of its unique puzzle game Zen Bound 2 to just $.99 from $4.99.

Seems everyone’s getting in on this – even Yo Deshi is now free, AND they seem to have not switched it back to paid yet.
