If you’re an Xfinity (Comcast) cable television subscriber, you’ll want to be sure to download the latest version of the Xfinity TV app. Xfinity TV was updated yesterday to add TV streaming of a number of shows from a variety of channels while connected to a Wi-Fi network.

The list of what’s new in version 1.5 includes the following:

• Now watch movies and TV shows anytime, anywhere on your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad using a WiFi connection.
• The XFINITY TV app also now automatically gives you mobile access to the same TV channel lineup you have at home.
• It also lets you browse and tune to more of the On Demand TV shows and movies you expect.
• The experience of returning to the application in search on iPhone has also been improved.

The app offers free access to shows like Conan, Seinfeld, Dr. Who, and Robot Chicken though there are limited number of episodes available for each program at this time. Content from several premium channels including HBO, Cinemax, and Encore is also available though you must subscribe to these channels through your home cable television service with Comcast to access them.

From what we can see so far, there’s also a lot of children’s programming available, making Xfinity TV and an iPad or iPod touch a handy entertainment device for young ones in a pinch.

The free Xfinity TV app requires iOS 4 and works with the iPhone 3G/S or iPhone 4, 2nd-generation or higher iPod touch, and iPad. Playing any content requires a Wi-Fi connection with a strong signal recommended for the best performance.
