Fans of Sega’s Sonic The Hedgehog series will be happy to hear that the gaming giant has released Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode 1 for the iPhone and iPod touch. The $9.99 game hit the App Store last night and our sister site Touch Arcade has already reviewed it.

Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode 1 will also be released for the Xbox 360, Wii, and PlayStation 3 shortly though the version available in the App Store contains two levels not available on any other platform. Touch Arcade found the game to be fun and noticed that it runs surprisingly well even on older iOS devices like the first-generation iPhone. Unfortunately, the game lacks any online leaderboards at the moment so you won’t have a way to directly compare your own scores with those of other players.
