Apple Releases iWork App Updates Adding iDisk Integration, More

by Marianne Schultz

Apple has just released updates to its Pages, Keynote, and Numbers iPad apps that add integration with its own MobileMe iDisk cloud storage as well as other cloud storage using the WebDAV protocol. Each app can now copy files from and save files to a users iDisk. Additionally, each app has received a number of feature enhancements and bug fixes. This suite of productivity apps was announced at the same time as the iPad in January and became available in the App Store right as the iPad was released in the U.S. The apps got their last major update in May.

Like Numbers, Keynote can now export files in the format of its Microsoft counterpart, PowerPoint, plus a lot more:

  • Export presentations to Microsoft PowerPoint (.PPT) format.
  • Copy presentations between Keynote and your MobileMe iDisk or a WebDAV service.
  • Support for audio in builds when importing Keynote ’09 presentations.

  • Add animated builds to grouped objects.
  • Lens Flare, Spin and Wipe build animations.

We’ve been waiting for some way for these apps to work directly with Apple’s own MobileMe service and it’s nice to see that this has finally arrived. However, the level of integration isn’t as complete as we’d like since you can’t edit files stored on an iDisk – you must literally import files to the iPad within one of the iWork apps and then copy the edited file back to your iDisk after you’re done, so you can easily end up with two versions of a file on your iDisk.

    Hi

We need the ability to give feedback on the apps you have listed. Found 2 today that aren’t available in my country… Dragon Dictate and Micello Maps. Would be good to have a warning to that effect on the page – even if its just in the comments.
