If you’ve heard of ChatRoulette, a website that connects users randomly to others around the world for video chats, and had a hankering for something similar on the iPhone, iChatr has stepped up to the plate. The free app came out over the weekend and uses the iPhone 4’s front-facing camera, connecting you to other random iPhone 4 users around the world.
In order to work, you must be connected to a Wi-Fi network and connect a headset your iPhone, like the one that comes with the iPhone 4 in the box. Unfortunately, the app doesn’t make use of the iPhone’s speaker, hence the requirement for a headset. Switching to a new chat partner is as easy as swiping across the screen to connect to another random user.
Note that there’s no way to screen out adult-oriented material and the service doesn’t have control over what users say or do, so parents and others who do not wish to be exposed to such content should consider this before downloading the app.
