Borders Releases Ebook App

by Marianne Schultz

Joining ebook heavies Amazon (Kindle), Barnes & Noble (B&N eReader), and Apple (iBooks), not to mention other players like Kobo and Stanza, U.S. bookseller Borders has released a free ebook reader app linked to its own ebook store. The app is universal and will adapt accordingly for use on an iPhone or iPad.

Ebook prices in the Borders store appear to be on par with those of Amazon and Apple. Your ebook library is presented on a virtual bookshelf, similar to way it’s shown in iBooks. Unlike Amazon’s Kindle app, you don’t need to leave the app to purchase new ebooks.

As with most of the other ebook readers, there are multiple fonts and other formatting options available to adjust text to suit your preferences and lighting conditions, though not as many as found in the Barnes & Noble eReader app.

It’s not yet possible to browse the Borders ebook store online – the company’s site states this store is coming some time this month. For the moment, the only way to browse the Borders ebook store on an iPad or iPhone is through this app.
