The Los Angeles Times reported yesterday that Hulu, provider of a popular online video service, may soon offer a paid subscription service. Called Hulu Plus, a subscription would cost $9.95 per month and offer access to older episodes of hit TV series:
Under the proposal, Hulu would continue to provide for free the five most recent episodes of shows like Fox’s “Glee,” “ABC’s “Lost” or NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.” But viewers who want to see additional episodes would pay $9.95 a month to access a more comprehensive selection, called Hulu Plus, these people said.
The New York Times had previously reported that the company has an iPad app in the works, also noting that any subscription service the company may implement would debut with the app.
People briefed on Hulu’s plan believe it may test the subscription approach with its iPad app.
The Los Angeles Times stated that testing of the subscription service may start on May 24, which could point to the arrival time of the corresponding iPad app.
